hmm personally i see zine projects as a business and by extension, a job opportunity, so i guess.. it would be akin to asking a friend to recommend you to their higher ups? for example, in animation this is extremely common. in that way i don't think it's rude? it also depends on the person you wish to ask as well, if they're comfortable with it.

realistically, there's always a chance of rejection as well, i've been rejected from mutual zines because my style didn't fit the series/project. i guess it's worth a shot, good luck!
